This single-family home, built in Pergamino, Province of Buenos Aires, is situated in the center of a 500-square-meter lot. It is located on a corner lot measuring 50 meters along an avenue and 21 meters along a side street. The design takes advantage of the setback required by municipal regulations to create a large front yard and ensure maximum privacy.
It was decided to raise the structure half a level to ensure proper orientation and improved views, a decision that also highlights the main living areas and minimizes the building’s footprint. Set back on all four sides, it is a compact volume that stands freely on the site. The two-story home features secondary spaces on the ground floor, which is set back half a level.
On the upper floor, raised half a level, are the main living areas. The house achieves minimal footprint and optimal views from the interior.
The entrance is located in the center of the floor plan. The main facade, facing west, is a solid wall finished with a wooden lattice. From there, one enters a hallway that serves as a connecting point between the private living area, the service area, and the living room.
It consists of 4 bedrooms, one of which is en suite, a living-dining room, kitchen, pantry, and restrooms.
The semi-basement level is hidden from the exterior, giving the impression of a single elevated and suspended floor. The kitchen, pantry, and four bedrooms (one en suite)—highlighted by a gallery, as is the living-dining room—connect to the basement via an internal staircase or ramp leading to the garage, which shares the level with the mechanical room, two staff bedrooms, a spacious laundry room, a storage room, and a pantry. In this semi-basement, then, we located the service areas to maximize the functionality of the main spaces and create more green space.
The partition walls were used to create storage spaces, either double-sided or built against east-west facing walls. The semi-underground level housing the garage and service areas connects to the main floor via an internal staircase and a ramp.
Of great formal simplicity, the residence was designed with two concrete slabs, exposed brick exterior walls, and galleries and extensions that crown the north and south facades.
